YouTube to block a number of videos in the UK

YouTube will have to remove a large number of its most popular music videos following the site's failure to secure a licensing agreement with the Performing Rights Society (PRS) for Music.

The two bodies failed to agree over a payment deal with YouTube arguing that it would make a loss by featuring the videos while also paying royalties. The Google owned site also claimed that the PRS were unwilling to furnish the identity of the artists that would be covered by the proposed agreement.

Google says that it will try to renegotiate the licensing deal with the PRS, but in the meantime the bad news for users is that songs by singers and bands on EMI, Universal, Warner and Sony BMG will be removed from the popular video sharing website.
