You buy the controller

We reckoned it might just be a revolution and it looks like we might have been right! Microsoft's new Kinect controller for the XBox 360 - which uses a bonkers array of cameras and infra-red to sense players' bodies, letting them control the game with their whole bodies - is almost certainly the biggest innovation in video gaming since the Wii came out a few years ago (well, unless you count the iPhone).

And it looks like consumers agree. Microsoft just announced it sold 8 million Kinect controllers in 2010. At $150 a pop, that's over a billion dollars in revenue. Not bad for a little over three months!

Of course, the question is whether software developers can come up with enough nifty games to keep the platform selling in 2011...
