Xbox Live update coming today

We talked yesterday about this new update for Xbox Live, which Microsoft warned might cause some older Xbox 360’s to stop reading disks. It’s going to start rolling out form today, so keep your Xbox on and leave it on, as it might take a long old time to finish.

The update is huge and includes a whole raft of new stuff, including compatibility with the new disk format, and auto standby feature, which will automatically put your console on standby if you leave it untouched for an hour. That’s pretty nifty. It will also apparently increase the level of integration with PayPal however, which is something we’re a lot less keen on.

‘Once you've linked your PayPal account to your Xbox Live account on Xbox.com, you'll be off and running to use it as a billing option, allowing you to buy content such as Microsoft Points, Xbox Live Gold subscriptions and Games on Demand titles,' explained official mouthpiece Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb. ‘Just like any other update to our service, you will know you've received it when you turn on your Xbox 360 console, connect to Xbox Live and receive a notification to download the update.

'It's important to note that it may take a few days to make its way around the globe. Thanks for your patience if you don't get it right away!’
