Xbox Live subscription fees increase

It’s the news that Xbox 360 owners the world over would have been fearing: the inevitable price rise in your Xbox LIVE subscription fee. Yes, we know it’s not fair, but what can you do? In this current economic climate those paupers at Microsoft have to scrape together all the money they can. Don’t you realise Bill Gates has to pay the leccy bill too?

Oh wait, us UK video gamers have hardly been affected at all; it’s only the Yanks and the Canucks in the Anglo world who have had their pockets sorted through by Gates’ vicious money men. We’re not laughing though, oh no, despite the fact that we’ve only been hit by a rise in the one-month subscriptions (from £4.99 to £5.99 – who buys one month’s worth anyway?), while in the States a year’s worth of online fun has gone up a whole $10 to $59.99. Meanwhile three months has increased from $19.99 to $24.99 and one month has gone up to $9.99 from $7.99. Ouch.

‘We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry,’ said Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson, who much love having to smooth over fans after they’ve been told that in a time of recession your products are going up.
