What does Bill know?

In 2001 Bill Gates unveiled Microsoft’s first tablet computer saying it would be more popular than the laptop 'in five years'. Well, nearly 10 years later and said tablet computer is nowhere to be seen and instead something called an iPad from Apple has been tipped to wipe the ‘slate’ clean.

Talking to Bnet the mega-rich nerd insisted the future of computers lay in the netbook, thereby slamming the touch-only iPad: ‘you know, I'm a big believer in touch and digital reading, but I still think that some mixture of voice, the pen and a real keyboard - in other words a netbook - will be the mainstream on that.’

In a very rare admittance of near defeat Gates did praise the iPhone, though: ‘so, it's not like I sit there and feel the same way I did with iPhone where I say, 'Oh my God, Microsoft didn't aim high enough.' It's a nice reader, but there's nothing on the iPad I look at and say, 'Oh, I wish Microsoft had done it.'’

Ha! There's nothing on the iPad you like? Yeah, don't give up the day job Bill. The iPad will be released into the wild in March.
