Video games set to become No.1 source of entertainment

Video games are set to become the No.1 source of entertainment in the near future according to Mike Griffin the head of games producer Activision.

Social gaming, interactivity and the pace of technological development were underlined as the key factors which will see video games overtake television, cinema and music in Griffin's speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The Activision chief utilised data from the US market to prove his point: cinema ticket sales and TV viewing hours have dropped by 6% in the last 5 years, while music sales are down almost 12%. Video games sales, on the other hand, have grown by 40% in the same period.

Games such as Guitar Hero have also become marketing tools for music according to Griffin, with bands featured in the popular interactive music game enjoying a huge rise in download sales of their music.
