Upgrading the tubes

YouTube is set to up the ante with its crazy mad video uploading stylez, bringing the pain to other websites by upgrading its HD content from 720p to the full 1080p HD experience. Neat, no?

Other websites have speculated that this could mean more movies and TV shows to be shown through the site, but YouTube have remained tight-lipped on that matter. However, the current file capacity of 2GB is being upgraded, and videos that were already uploaded in 1080p will be re-encoded so they take full advantage of the upgrade.

This could also mean very good things indeed about the recent deal YouTube struck with Channel 4, although again neither party has said a single word on the matter. In any case, we can dream of Peep Show in HD, can we not?
