Twitter overtakes Bebo and Friendster

This time last year Twitter boasted a paltry 8m users world wide, but the site has seen its total of monthly unique visitors rise to 32m by April of this year. According to the latest figures from comScore, the micro-blogging site has now leapfrogged Digg (23m), LinkedIn (16m) and NYTimes.com (17.5m).

TechCrunch notes that comScore's figures don't include the large number of people who use Twitter via mobile devices and through other websites. With the micro-blogging site now bigger than both Bebo and Friendster, there will be a large number of social networking sites glancing worryingly over their shoulders as the runaway train that is Twitter gets ever closer.
