The real deal?

Facebook: it eats up your time like nothing else. Couldn't it also save you money?

Now, maybe. Location is the next big thing in the world of Web 2.0, and Facebook is naturally getting in on the act. It's just launched Deals, which let you save money at certain retailers if you check in in one of their stores using Facebook Places.

But are the savings any good? CNET took a look at the deals on day one and weren't impressed. Some of the discounts were good, like five free plates of sushi at Yo! Sushi, but very limited - like 'the first 1000 users.'

Can you see yourself checking in to a shop - telling all your friends you're there - to get 20% off?
