That's sun stadium

Impending environmental doom is no doubt one day going to devour everyone in a smouldering, molten apoco-death, but it's nice that some people are trying to stave off the inevitable, especially when it means solar-powered stadiums.

Oh yes, Taiwan has just finished constructing a 50,000 seat arena that will generate all – that's 100% – of its electricity from photovaltaic techonology (that's solar power to you and me), and it will host the 2009 World Games, which hosts events not found in the Olympics like rugby sevens and parachuting.

The 14,155 sq metre solar roof will power the stadium's 3,300 lights and two jumbo vision screens. This to our mind is just about the coolest thing we've seen all year.
