Take that, Rupert

Good old Richard Branson. He may not be quite the darling of the media he once was, but he still knows how to steal his rivals' thunder. For the last few days the internet has been buzzing with discussion of Rupert Murdoch's new iPad-only newspaper The Daily. But now it looks like that won't be the first iPad-based publication to hit the market. The Virgin chief is launching his own iPad magazine... next week.

Called 'Project,' the magazine 'will cover entertainment, travel, business, design, and international culture,' according to Engadget. That sounds pretty broad, with a leaning towards business readers - which makes sense given that iPad users are currently still a fairly affluent bunch.

Presumably, Project will use the iTunes publication subscription system Apple is believed to be launching soon. No word on how much it'll cost yet, though, or who'll be writing it. Stay tuned!
