SXSW: Zuckerberg Keynote Descends Into Chaos

Interesting times at SXSW 2008 in Texas. On Sunday night, the crowd turned on journalist Sarah Lacy during her interview with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He was the keynote speaker at this year's event.

Lacy's flirty and friendly tone did not go down well with the geek fraternity. Members of the audience heckled Lacy during the hour-long interview with one member of the audience shouting, "talk about something interesting".

But the crowd's displeasure wasn't limited to heckles in the real world. Many of the attendees were simultaneously posting comments on the star of last year's SXSWi, Twitter. The comments were far from positive.

The twitterati were exchanging opinions before the interview began and these became increasingly more negative as the interview developed. Examples include: "It sounds like the Zuckerberg keynote was one of the worst things in Internet history," or "Never, ever have I seen such a train wreck of an interview." Ouch!

Following the interview, Lacy responded succintly to her critics: "Seriously screw all you guys. I did my best to ask a range of things." SXSWi attendees are still said to be buzzing from the Zuckerberg-Lacy incident. And who said web conferences were boring?
