SpiralFrog puts music downloads in price freefall

You're forgiven if you've not heard of SpiralFrog yet. It's not exactly a household name, but it will be soon. The company has just licensed Universal Music's entire back catalogue and will let visitors to the site download the tracks for free...yes, that was for free...very soon. This is a searchable database of their artists.

The site will make its money by asking you watch ads for the 90 seconds wait time it takes for the songs to download. Groups under Universal Music's label include U2 and the Scissor Sisters. Put their RSS feed on your MIX for updates about when the service will be live.

WebTwitcher thinks this signals another shift in the music download industry, which looks like it could be very advantageous for the humble web user...
