Sony's Christmas VAT giveaway

Strange as it may seem, Christmas is making its way rapidly round once again, which probably isn’t great news for most families right now, given that we’re slap bang in the middle of a recession and our current government has decided that a massive round of cuts to public services and public sector jobs is a good idea. However, we have some news which might cheer some of you up: Sony are offering a VAT Back scheme to help you with your Christmas shopping.

From tomorrow up until Christmas Eve you can buy the Sony products from the following stores: John Lewis, M&S Home, Amazon, Jessops, Currys, Argos, Comet, PC World, Tesco Extra and Sony Centre, and as long as you claim it back before 31 January 2011 you’ll be given the full 17.5 per cent back. Lovely.

Obviously this is a cynical ploy from Sony to encourage people to buy their electrical goods rather than those of the competition, and should be roundly deplored as such, but really, who cares? Here’s a list of the products that are in the scheme, and below there is a heart warming ad promoting it, starring the man who played Cadfael. You lucky, lucky people.
