Review of the Sony Xperia Z2

The Sony Xperia Z1 was just released in September of last year and already Sony will soon be releasing their Xperia Z2. What possible improvements could have been made to make people want to upgrade so soon? Here is a quick look at what differences there are between the old model and the Sony Xperia Z2.

What are the Improvements?

Like the older model, this phone is dust resistant and waterproof. They are designed with rubber lined flaps that prevent water from leaking in; one of its small but unique qualities.

The design still consists of metallic sides and glass plate on the front and back. But unlike the predecessor, the Sony Xperia Z2 is a bit smoother around the edges and slimmer measuring in at 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2mm and 163g compared to the Z1 that was 8.5mm thick.

The battery life is 3200 mAh and can run for 740 hours when it is left in an idle state. It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat and there is 16GB of built in storage.

Like the Z1, the Z2 has a 1080p display, but it has a slightly larger screen at 5.25" compared to the old 5" screen.

Camera and Audio:

The camera offers 20.7MP photos and 1920x1080 resolution. The major improvement is the Timeshift video app which allows the user to shoot 120 frames per second at 720p resolution.

Another large improvement is the 4K video recording and the video editing tools on the phone. There is also a slow-motion video capture mode.

The speakers have changed to the front of the handset which helps with the overall sound output. You can choose between audio setting:ClearBass, ClearPhase, ClearStereo, Digital Noise Cancellation and xLOUD.

To Buy or Not to Buy

The release date for the Sony Xperia Z2 is not official, but rumours have it that it will be avaiable in April. The retail price for the Sony Xperia Z2 looks like it will be around £599 pounds with cheaper options available online. There is not a lot of change between this and the older model, but it is a great phone for those that are looking to upgrade.
