Yet to be fully released in Japan, Virtualization Technology from NEC Japan could be the next big thing in search.
Conceptually it’s pretty simple. You can ask it to read RSS feeds and web pages, only picking out product information and corporate blurb you specify. It’s designed to speed up what product market researchers do in competitor analysis at the moment.
But it could revolutionise search too. Imagine if you were shopping and you simply typed in a product type and the software harvested all the info on the web for you. Its potential application to shopping comparison websites is obvious. Plus general searching techniques could become almost completely automated.
