Revenue’s website down on deadline day
HM Revenue and Customs, which has not covered itself in glory recently when it comes to handling data, is in another pickle. The deadline for self-assessment tax returns was on 31 January and, of course, HMRC has been encouraging people to complete their forms online.
That’s all very well until the website that’s supposed to be handling the returns remembers it’s Government-built and collapses when too many people actually use it. That’s what happened on Thursday, and HMRC has been forced to extend the submission deadline to midnight on 1 February, presumably while they find the relevant CD…
