Retweeting @ Twitter

Great news for all those Twitter fans out there; not only can you carry on with your inane posts about nothing (Stephen Fry, we’re talking to you), soon you’ll be able post other people’s twitterings, via the medium of new feature retweet.

It’s currently being rolled out to users gradually, much like Sky Player, which is being dribbled out to Xbox Live users so it doesn’t crash. A new Retweet icon will be added to the bottom right of each tweet and on the pages of people you’re following there will also be an icon that indicates whether or not you’re receiving retweets from them.

But wait! There’s controversy! The official new retweet does not allow you to post comments under them (unlike the unofficial way of retweeting, which is to just put 'RT' before a post). The horror!

‘We’ve just activated a feature called retweet on a very small percentage of accounts in order to see how it works in the wild,’ said the official Twitter Status blog. ‘Retweet is a button that makes forwarding a particularly interesting tweets to all your followers very easy.’
