Realtime action on YouTube

Has YouTube been scared by the recent surge in use for Twitter? If its latest move proves anything, then yes. The video streaming site has started giving users real time updates on what your friends are up to, a neat little touch of the social networking sort.

The site is trying out a new toolbar called YouTube Realtime, according to Electric Pig, that shows which friends of yours are online and what they're watching, as well as what they're saying about videos. If the usual standard of YouTube comments is everything to go by, then nothing intelligent.

Realtime is being tested on an invite only basis, so unless you happen to know someone trying it out, then you'll not see it until when or if YouTube release it to the general populace.
