PSP 2 - official!

As was reported by us yesterday evening, Sony has finally revealed the PSP 2 to the world, and it’s coming absolutely jam-packed with new features and that, some of which we can barely believe will be packed in a device small enough for your pocket (assuming you have a large-ish pocket).

The first thing to get out of the way is that as for now it’s being called the NGP (Next Generation Portable entertainment system), not the PSP 2, and the whole idea of it is to be a fully-powered Playstation, with incredible capabilities for a handheld. The machine will come packing a quad-core Cortex-A9 processor and a quad-core Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX543MP+ graphics processor, and the screen has a screen with four times the resolution of the PSP. As well as that the screen is an OLED touchscreen.

But that’s not all: it’s also coming hard with full PlayStation game controls, a front and rear mounted camera, and similar technology to the PlayStation Move, with a 3D accelerometer, electronic compass and gyroscope. You will also have connectivity through 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS.

As for gaming, UMD discs are out of the window, as games will down be downloaded, and through the same internet connectivity online multiplayer will also be possible. Nice. There is one problem, however: it’s not coming until the end of the year. Boooo.
