Pre-monition of an upgrade

If you've got a Palm Pre or a Palm Pixi, you probably already know that your phone's operating system - WebOS - is one of the best available, with elegant, fast multitasking, great universal search, and good social network integration. You might also know that the new Pre 2 comes with an updated version of this software, called WebOS 2. And if you're really paying attention, you might also know that none of the UK networks are going to sell the Pre 2.

Which might leave you wondering how you're going to get a piece of the WebOS 2 goodness. So this is good news: Palm 'developer advocate' (no, we don't know what that means either) Josh Marinacci said this week that WebOS 2 will be coming to 'all' Palm devices in the next few months. So we're not sure when, but at some point in the next 200-odd days, you should get a nice, shiny over-the-air upgrade to your ageing handset.

The question is: will this feel like an upgrade? Or will it slow down your phone till it's almost unuseable, as iOS 4 did to older iPhones? Here's hoping this news means that Palm have taken the time to check how the OS will actually perform on older hardware...
