Poor Palm. Their Pre phone was adored by geeks, but didn't sell well, leading the company to sell itself to HP. Now they're back with the Pre 2, but it seems the troubles last time have stuck in networks' mind. The Pre 2 is already on sale in the UK from HP's website, but it looks like that'll be the only place you can get it from. All four UK mobile networks seem to have said 'thanks, but no thanks' to the device.

Amazingly, that includes O2, who paid a handsome sum to be the sole distributor of the first Pre. That doesn't mean the Pre isn't available, but it does mean it'll set you back a whopping £399, as it's only out without contract.

Now, this doesn't mean the networks have turned their back on Palm forever - HP is reported to be planning a bunch of new models in the new year, so maybe they're just holding out for cooler stuff. Still, it won't help Palm in its battle to carve out a niche for itself in the smartphone market. Not one bit.
