Please, somebody think of the children

Modern Warfare 2 has been filling the columns of pages such as this ever since that naughty teaser trailer was leaked all those months ago. It’s been little more than hype, hype and more hype, and it looks like it’s well deserved; Infinity Ward have clearly invested a lot of time money and talent into the game, and it is no doubt going to be a smash hit.

However, it has been stirring up some unwelcome controversy in NIMBY-style conservatism hotbed Australia, after a scene that showed the heroes shooting civilians in an airport was leaked onto the internet. Now lobby group Australian Council on Children and the Media is demanding that the game be reclassified from MA 15+ (the highest rating available for games) to something higher, which has not been specified and which would effectively ban the game from sale.

‘We understand that it's a game but,’ said ACCM president Jane Roberts, before launching into a huge scaremongering caveat. ‘We're not far off when you look at the images that you could actually put it on a Channel Nine news report and you'd think maybe that is real.’
