Playstation's thunder stolen

Sony have announced the integration of Facebook with its PlayStation Network for the PS3 in its next firmware update, although as you can see from the video below it’s a little bit less comprehensive than today’s Xbox 360 update, which has absolutely nothing to do with Sony’s announcement.

Basically all it means is that you can sync your PSN and Facebook accounts so that your trophies and purchases on the network are displayed on Facebook. Which is ok if a bit meh. Although seeing as the PS3 already has a proper browser use of the social networking site isn’t a problem. Other things for the update include re-jigging the photo folders and friends list. The video below will explain how.

‘By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity,’ says the PlayStation Blog.

‘This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3's built-in web browser.

‘This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.’
