Did you know that you can mute chat groups? Group messaging a collection of friends is great most of the time but if the noise of notifications is getting too much, why not mute the chat? On Android you tape the menu button to get to the right place. On iOS you tap the group’s name. You can then block notifications for anywhere between 8 hours and one year.

Keep the contents of your chats forever by emailing them. To do this on Android tap “More” then “Email Chat”. On iOS you tap the bar at the top of the conversation then pick “Email Chat”.
