The Filter, a site which provides daily media recommendations to users, was launched this morning. Set up by the musician Peter Gabriel, the site's aim is to manage the limitless supply of information offered on the internet according to the tastes of the user.
Speaking in a video to mark the launch of The Filter, Gabriel said, "The internet, which I think is an amazing creation, provides access to an ocean of limitless information, but without filtering it's easy to drown, but if you have this little friend on your shoulder, that can pick out music to listen to and films to look it, it's something I would use provided I could steer it a little."
In a nutshell, users who sign up to The Filter are asked to rate a number of different types of music, films and bands. This information is then used to recommend specific content to the user. In theory these suggestions become more accurate the more you use the site meaning less time wasted wading through new content.Peter Gabriel talks about The Filter
