PC + Kinect = FUTURE

We're pretty excited about this. Microsoft's Kinect has launched a minor revolution in game-world with its totally controller-less, er, control. And we've enjoyed seeing some of the crazy hacks people have made to get it working on PCs. But while nerdy hobbyists can do some cool things, the real potential for Kinect to be amazing on PC requires official tools.

And here they are! Microsoft has confirmed that it's releasing an SDK - that's geek-speak for development tools - for Kinect for PC later this Spring. Aimed at 'academic researchers and enthusiasts,' it'll give 'access to key pieces of the Kinect system-such as the audio technology, system application programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor itself.'

Eventually, Microsoft say, they'll release a commercial SDK too (well, they don't call them M$FT for nothing). We think this has the potential to be huge - on XBox, Kinect is an interesting gaming innovation, but on Windows, the potential is there for crazy Minority Report-style hand-waving navigation. Take that, Magic Trackpad!
