Nominations have opened for the 2008 Women and Technology Awards, sponsored by BlackBerry and aiming to “honour those women who are achieving exceptional business success through innovative use of technology”.
The launch is being publicised with a photo exhibition by Bryan Adams called Modern Muses, including shots of well-known technocrats Judi Dench, Erin O’Connor and Darcey Bussell. Oh and yes, it is that Bryan Adams, with his photography hat on rather than his Annoying Number 1 Record That Shall Not Be Mentioned hat (which is much bigger).
As with most awards, there’s a certain amount of overblown self-importance around, but overall it’s about time women’s role in technology was more widely recognised. If you know someone who deserves to be nominated, or you want to enter, check out the awards website.
