Things just keep getting better for Nintendo. Not only has the Wii consistently spanked its competitors in the console wars, now the Nintendo DS has enjoyed record sales for the month of August.
NPD statistics show that Nintendo shifted 518,300 units of the DS Lite last month in the US alone, beating the previous record held by Sony's Playstation 2 back in 2002. The Wii also enjoyed sales of nearly half a million in August, a month notorious for slow sales.
The DS is hugely popular in Japan, but so far Nintendo has failed to repeat that success in Europe or North America. It now looks, however, as if the popularity of the Wii has helped to boost sales of the hand held console. Happy days at Nintendo towers.
