Nintendo consoles range

Nintendo has been producing game systems and  Nintendo consoles since 1975 when they first acquired the rights to distribute the magnavox oddysey in Japan. At present Nintendo's two most popular consoles are the Wii and the 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS was released in Japan in February of 2011 and March 2011 in Europe. While the 3DS is very similar in size and appearance to the Nintendo DS series, Nintendo consider this to be a whole new console and the natural succesor to the DS series. The 3DS has two screens, like the DS the bottom screen is a touch screen format while the top screen is wide screen with an autostereoscopic 3D LCD. The autostereoscopic is what allows the 3DS to be viewed in 3D without the wearing of special 3D glasses, it does this by sending different images to the right and left eye. The 3DS has already proven to be hugely successful and as of the end of June Nintendo have already sold 4.3 Million units.

The Nintendo Wii is Nintendo's 7th generation home game console and it was released in November 2006. It has been a hugely popular game console and has changed the world of interactive gaming. As of June 30th 2011 Nintendo has sold 87.57 Million copies worldwide. One of the main distinguishable features of the Nintendo Wii is its wireless controller known as the Wii remote, the Wii remote can be used as a handheld pointing device and can detect motion and rotation in three dimensions. The remote comes with a Nunchuk accessory which provides extra controls, including more motion sensing. In April 2011 Nintendo Consoles announced their intention to release a successor to the Wii knows as the WiiU which would be available for release in 2012.
