Which is the best nintendo console ever?

The Nintendo Wii brought the venerable company back to the centre of the gaming world after a decade in the wilderness. Some young people could be forgiven for believing Nintendo started with the Wii, but they've been around for a long, long time!

In their decades in the business, the Big N have been producing quality consoles and games. We've decided to list our favourite Nintendo console, which you may or may not agree with!

For us, and many gamers of a similar age, the Nintendo 64 will always be the king! The console was puny by today's standards obviously, with small cartridge based games making up the entire library. Despite this, most of the features you'd expect from modern games were spawned on this machine.

The Nintendo 64 launched in PAL territories in 1997, with a strong line-up of games including the revolutionary Super Mario 64. This game helped to highlight the beautiful 64-bit graphics the machine could produce.

Despite the console being roundly outsold by the Sony Playstation, the N64 enjoyed what is widely regarded as one of the strongest line-up's of games on any machine, ever! Genuine classics like Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye 007, Lylat Wars, Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark were all revolutionary titles in their time, and helped to launch some of the genres we take for granted these days.

Another reason this console is so fondly remembered is the fact it spawned The Ocarina of Time, which many people consider the greatest video game of all time.

You can pick up an N64 for a bargain price these days, and the fact they are cartridge based means the machine is durable, and will last for many years to come!
