The Nintendo 3DS, the new Nintendo console

Nintendo have always ruled the roost when it comes to portable gaming. The Game Boy held court for almost twenty years, before its successor, the Nintendo DS, swaggered into town and raised the bar even further.

Now, the latest portable gadget from the Nintendo stable has emerged, and the big decision is - Should you take the plunge? Our short answer is yes! The 3DS is a joy to behold. All the talk of 3D graphics is moot, it has to be seen to be believed.

Unfortunately our time with the console only included a play with the included tech demos, but these give an incredible insight into the potential of the system.

The good news is that the 3DS is compatible with all existing Nintendo DS software, meaning your current library of games will work with no problems. One problem a lot of people will have with the system is the meagre battery life.

On highest brightness setting you can expect to enjoy three hours of gaming. Performance is a LOT better when brightness is dialled down, though. This new Nintendo console is a marvel, and we highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about taking the plunge. You won't regret it!

3DS games have yet to be pirated also, which is good news for Nintendo!

If you're buying, you have the choice of two colours. You can either plump for aqua blue or cobalt black. The recommended retail price of the system is around two hundred and twenty pounds.

You can pre-order the system now from any game store and also online. Be sure to get your order in as soon as possible, as the system is almost positive to sell out!
