Nexus 5 Launched: Next-Gen Nexus Phone Specs Revealed

There have been lots of Nexus 5 rumours, but now Google and LG have announced some specs and details of the Nexus 5 that should be enough to get the attention of all techies up and down the land. The new device will feature a 4.95 inch high-def screen and come with an 8M camera. Apparently, the new handset will offer seven hours of continuous 4G use and has the most up to date version of Android, which has been code named “Kitkat” for some reason.

The new phone has been created to give the Nexus brand a more premium feel, as Android chief Sundar Pichai said in the Google Blog that announced the arrival of the latest generation Nexus, “The first thing you’ll notice about KitKat is we’ve made the experience much more engaging: the book you're reading, the game you're playing, or the movie you're watching — now all of these take centre stage with the new immersive mode, which automatically hides everything except what you really want to see.”

Pichai added that this is the “The slimmest and fastest Nexus phone ever made. Its design is simple and refined to showcase the 5 inch full HD display. The Google Nexus 5 also keeps you connected at blazing speeds with 4G/LTE and ultra-fast wi-fi. The advanced new lens on Nexus 5 captures more light for brighter night and sharper action shots, and with optical image stabilisation, you no longer have to worry about shaky hands and blurry pictures.”

The handset’s dimensions have been slimmed down to 69.17 x 137.84 x 8.59mm and the device weighs 130kg but the next-gen Nexus improves on the current machine as Pichai explains, “With KitKat, we've slimmed down Android’s memory footprint by doing things like removing unnecessary background services and reducing the memory consumption of features that you use all the time.”

The Nexus 5 release date is 1st November.
