A new scientific study has found that drummers are fitter than footballers. Researchers from the University of Chichester and the University of Gloucestershire monitored Blondie's drummer Clem Burke over a number of months during their study.

The research revealed that Burke's heart rate during a 90-minute concert averaged 140-150 beats per second but could also rise to as high as 190 burning between 400 and 600 calories an hour. That is the same as the heart rate of a Premier League footballer.

But while a professional footballer may play 40-50 games per year a professional drummer usually plays at least 100 concerts in a year, sometimes 30 nights in a row. So according to the study's findings a professional drummer needs to be fitter than your average overpaid and over pampered footballing prima donna .
