Mozilla breaks download record with Firefox 310:43 Thu 03 July 2008 Mozilla was successful in its attempt to break the world record for software downloads in 24 hours. A staggering 8,002,530 people downloaded Mozilla's new web browser Firefox 3 on 17 June. The record attempt suffered a minor technical hitch when Mozilla's servers went down in the hours building up to the release. But they were back up and running by midday and were handling over 9,000 downloads per minute. Guinness has officially confirmed the record after data from download servers were analyzed with duplicate and unfinished download figures being excluded. Mozilla received another boost with the news that Firefox 3 has cemented its position as the world's most popular web browser after Internet Explorer, increasing its market share by 19%. |
