The BBC has released the January viewing figures for its iPlayer service, which lets viewers watch streamed shows on bbc.co.uk. The big news is Doctor Who was the most watched programme online – the internet and the Doctor are obviously a match made in heaven, as if anyone needed telling – with spin-off Torchwood somehow bending time and space to appear at numbers 3, 5 and 10 in the chart.

All in all 2 million people viewed programmes online in January, with Mistresses, Top Gear and Ashes to Ashes also popular.
