Did you know that UK iTunes users pay more than users anywhere else in Europe? Well, we do – the basic single-track price of 79p compares to €0.99 (65p-75p) in Ireland and continental Europe.

Now Apple is trying to harmonise its pricing across Europe by flexing its digital muscle to negotiate lower “wholesale” prices with record companies. The company says it will “reconsider its relationship” with anyone who doesn’t charge it less – presumably in much the same way that Alan Sugar “reconsiders his relationship” with a hapless apprentice at the end of every show…
