New Sony laptops are too hot to handle - or use

Uh-oh. Sony's snazzy new Vaio C and Vaio F laptops, released in January, offer all sorts of great fun functions like integrated cameras and gaming-friendly video support. But it seems they also have one unintended feature - they work quite well if you're trying to burn a hole in your trousers.

Sony has just announced that half a million of the new laptops are in danger of overheating because of a fault with the chip that monitors its temperature. Apparently users are at risk of their machine breaking down, or even burns.

The good news is that a software fix is available, so if you own one of the affected laptops you don't necessarily have to send it off to be repaired.
