Naughty Square Enix

When Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIII, they must have figured the portentous episode number could bring bad luck. And so it's proved.

Reviews have noted the fact that the XBox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII has less glorious graphics than the Playstation 3 version. That's not particularly surprising, I mean, the PS3 is a more powerful console.

The problem is that Square released a TV advert in the UK for the XBox 360 version that showed footage from the PlayStation 3 version. Here's the offending ad:

Now the Advertising Standards Authority has banned the bloomin' thing, saying it deceives customers.

Square say that's not fair, as the advert showed cut-scenes rather than gameplay, and cut-scenes look pretty much the same across platforms. We reckon that level of complexity might be lost on the ASA, to be honest. Either way, the moral of the story is: if you're an XBox owner, make sure you get a look at the graphics of any game on your platform before you buy.
