More anti-gaming nonsense

The way video games are portrayed in the press, you’d think that it wasn’t a multi-billion dollar industry that is the rival of any entertainment medium out there, but a seedy underground addiction on a par with smack and ‘adult’ cinemas.

Yet again the tabloid press – namely the Daily Mail – has besmirched the good name of gaming, claiming that it ruins relationships, by citing a dubious survey of 1,500 gamers and their partners by One-Poll.com that claimed that five per cent of gamers admitted that their hobby had cost them their relationship. They even provide a handy list of the top 20 ‘relationship wrecking games’. Of course, we haven’t found any study asking how many men leave their partners because they spend all their time after working watching endless repeats of Friends and Sex In The City.

‘It seems like a games console often means there are three people in a relationship,’ said some spokesperson of other. ‘It's a bit sad if the virtual world is taking precedence over the real world.’ Bah.
