Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders skyrocket

Activision haven’t even announced Modern Warfare 3 yet and it’s already causing a ridiculous amount of industry buzz: teaser trailers have been released and even plot details have been leaked, while the pre-orders on sites like Amazon and Play.com are flowing in.

What this means for the title is as yet unclear, but what we do know is that this is going to be a really big seller, as MW3 is already well outstripping Black Ops for pre-orders. That’s according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, who has revealed that it is the third highest selling games across all platforms, only behind L.A. Noire on the Xbox 360 and PS3. That’s pretty mad. And given that Creutz thinks that Black Ops will end up selling 25 million copies, we can surely expect a record-breaking figure for Infinity Ward’s latest.

‘Pre-orders already appear to be flowing in, as Amazon.com lists the Xbox 360 version of the game at #3 in their top 100 selling titles across all platforms and the PS3 version of the game at #12,’ he said. ‘By comparison, we note that last year's Call of Duty title, Black Ops, placed its 360 and PS3 versions #74 and #76 in the Amazon top 100 during the week its initial trailer was released, and at #49 and #73, respectively, during the first full week following the initial trailer.’
