Microsoft goes for Google

Microsoft is obviously trying to a take a serious swipe at search engine giants Google. Today it showed off it's latest attempt to crack the market, and gave it the rather odd name of Bing.

They're marketing Bing, which is going to be rolling out today, as not so much a search engine, but as a 'decision engine'. Which is an interesting tack, to say the least. They're also bigging up their 'guided searches', which are designed for the user to categorise their searches and get to useful info more quickly.

'Today, search engines do a decent job of helping people navigate the web and find information, but they don't do a very good job of enabling people to use the information they find,' said Steve Ballmer, the chief executive of Microsoft.

'Bing is an important first step forward in our long-term effort to deliver innovations in search that enable people to find information quickly and use the information they've found.'
