Making money

Despite all of our concerns about the iPad 2 – like that it was basically the same machine as the previous one, with only minor updates that should have been on it in the first place – the thing appears to be flying off the shelves at an even quicker rate than the first iteration, selling nearly one million during its first weekend on sale in the US.

That compares with the 28 days it took the first iPad to reach the same point, and with the device set to go on sale in 26 more countries on 25 March, it looks as though Apple have hit a huge home run with the tablet. Take our advice and get some of the Android machines though; you don’t need Apple – they need you.

‘Our field checks over the weekend indicate that the iPad 2 sold out at every Apple and non-Apple store we contacted,’ said Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White. ‘In fact, all the stores had worked through iPad 2 inventory by Saturday afternoon, and there were no new iPad 2 deliveries on Sunday.’
