Kingdom Hearts 3 Announced for Xbox One and Playstation 4

After the press conference for Xbox One, Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts 3 is scheduled to be released on Xbox One. Kingdom Hearts 3 will also be released on Playstation 4, but this is the first time the Kingdom Hearts franchise will appear on a Microsoft console and not exclusively to Sony.

Pre-Release Information

Much information about Kingdom Hearts 3 has not been released by Square Enix. There is not confirmation release date and there have been no announcements for any new features, detailed storyboarding or information beyond the teaser trailer.

The 8th instalment of the Kingdom Heart series follows Sora as he tries to stop Master Xehanort from recreating the xi blade in order to open Kingdom Hearts while trying to save the souls of Aqua, Ventus and Terra.

The game is also said to see the return of some much-loved characters, such as Riku, Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey and the inclusion of other familiar Disney characters.

So, why did the game take so long? Fans were anticipating a Kingdom Hearts 3 for years, but were met only with 'new series' additions and spi-off games rather than Kingdom Hearts 3.

Due to production of Final Fantasy XVI and other work on the Final Fantasy saga, the future of Kingdom Hearts and a potential Kingdom Hearts 3 was put on hold for some time. The creators originally mentioned they felt it wasn't the 'right time' to think about a Kingdom Hearts 3 after Kingdom Hearts 2 was released, and said their primary focus was the Final Fantasy franchise for the moment. But, with the finality of Final Fantast XVI complete, work has begun on Kingdom Hearts 3.

Release Date

The release date for Kingdom Hearts 3 has yet to be announced. It has been announced as available for Xbox One and Playstation 4, but there has been no specific date for the game's availability; fans speculate that it will be available in 2014, shortly after the release of Xbox One and Playstation 4.
