What Are the Amazon Kindle Dimensions?

The Amazon Kindle took the world by storm when it was introduced in November of 2007. It was so popular from the moment of its launch, that it sold out within hours and the device remained out of stock until the year after. The Amazon Kindle, being an eBook reader, is ideal for taking on the move. It is far lighter and easier to carry than most paperback books, yet it can store as many books on it as you are ever likely to read. Since its original launch, the Amazon Kindle has been reimagined in various forms. There are three versions of the Kindle in addition to the original one. These are the Kindle 2, Kindle 3 and Kindle DX. The Kindle dimensions vary depending on the particular model.

The original Kindle was by far the thickest one with dimensions of 8.0 x 5.3 x 0.8 inches. The original Kindle weighs 10.2 ounces. The Kindle 2 has much the same dimensions as its predecessor, except for its thickness.

The Kindle 2 dimensions are 8.0 x 5.3 x 0.36 inches, making it less than half of the thickness of the original Kindle. The Kindle 2 is also considerably lighter, weighing only 8.7 ounces.

The Kindle 3, launched in 2010, is smaller again with dimensions of 7.5 x 4.8 x 0.34 inches and a weight of 8.5 ounces, making it slightly lighter than the Kindle 2.

The latest Kindle to be introduced is the Kindle DX. The dimensions of the Kindle DX are 10.4 x 7.2 x 0.38 inches and the weight is 18.9 ounces, making it over twice that of the other models. This is because the Kindle DX provides a considerably larger screen as well as various extra features.

The screen size of the Kindle DX is 9.7 inches diagonally, compared to the 6 inch screen size of the original Kindle and the Kindle 2.
