iStitch up?

Just like Microsoft are stitching up their customers with their Xbox 360 peripherals, Apple appear to be about to do the same with their swanky new iPad. Smart Alecs with heads for legal documentation have suggested that Apple with not be giving iPad users the free software updates that their iPhone counterparts have been enjoying, after finding the following in the iPad’s licensing information:

‘Apple will provide you any iPad OS software updates that it may release from time to time, up to and including the next major iPad OS software release following the version of iPad OS software that originally shipped…on your iPad, for free.

‘If your iPad originally shipped with iPad 3.x software, Apple would provide you with any iPad OS software…up to and including iPad 4.x.’

This could be very naughty behaviour indeed from Apple, so we’ll wait with interest to see if they’re going to bother responding to the fears of their customers, or if they’re going to slap them back into their places with a stony silence.
