iPhone bucks global trend and increases sales

Apple's iPhone has bucked the trend of falling global mobile phone sales according to a new study by Strategy Analytics. While the mobile phone industry has suffered an 8% fall in global sales, the iPhone has enjoyed a six-fold increase compared to last year.

Other mobile manufacturers who recorded an increase in sales over the last 12 months include Samsung (14%) and LG (8%). However, Nokia (15%), Sony Ericsson (43%) and Motorola (47%) all suffered huge drops in units shifted this year.

Notwithstanding the increase in sales, Strategy Analytics found that the iPhone enjoys just 2% of the global mobile market which leaves it trailing far behind the market leader Nokia on 37.8% with Samsung in second place on 19.2%
