iPad breaks 2 million sold mark

Whether you’re reading this from your brand new shining iPad and drooling at the awesome graphics and ease of use, or you’re sick to death at the world going gaga over the glow in the dark rectangle, no one can deny that the iPad has become an instant success.

Having been unveiled at the beginning of 2010 and released only in the US 2 months ago the iPad has just passed the 2 million sold landmark this weekend. What’s even more impressive is that it’s outselling the iPhone by 2-1 compared to the smartphone's first 60 days on sale. Sales will only inflate now that the iPad went on sale internationally on Friday (28 May).

Rubbing his hands with glee at the news, Steve Jobs said: ‘customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad and seem to be loving it as much as we do. We appreciate their patience and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.’

Because the demand has blown even Apple’s expectations out of the water there now looks to be a serious shortage of iPads for new buyers. Basically, they can’t make them fast enough. What’s the phrase again? Selling like iPads?
