Google target Christmas market with new G1 mobile
Google launched its first mobile phone, the G1, on Tuesday in New York and the internet giant is hoping to challenge the might of both Apple and Nokia in in the mobile handest market this Christmas.
The G1 will be released with T-Mobile in the UK in November, just in time to make its claim for a place in Christmas stockings. Google's handset has a touchscreen similar to the iPhone as well as a fold out Qwerty keyboard.
Although larger than the iPhone, the G1 uses the Android operating system which is open source and should lead to the creation of an infinite number of third party apps. Google also hopes that the mobile internet will draw consumers to the G1. The new handest is expected to be free for anyone who signs up to a £45 per month deal.
