Discover Google Street Maps UK

We remember seeing a funny looking car with cameras on its roof a few years ago and wondering what it was for. Then Google released Street View. Street View from Google Street Maps UK is a great way of planning routes, looking at houses, finding train stations, finding bus stops or even planning a holiday.

It was greeted by a little bit of controversy with few people saying it was against privacy rights, but Google use face recognition to blur out licence plates and peoples’ faces. The controversy was short lived and a Google spokesperson commented, "The images in Street View are lawful. The Street View feature only contains imagery gathered on public property. The imagery is no different from what any person can readily capture or see walking down the street."

Google Street Maps UK is great for planning routes to places. Simply search from where you are starting from and zoom into the Street View and you can do the route on the computer before leaving the house. It offers a lot more than traditional maps or even sat nav.

It is even good if you want to look at a house. Simply put in the address and look at it on Street View and you can look around the neighbourhood without having to leave your house. You can even see car parking spots, local bars, the nearest newsagents and get a feel for the area before making a viewing appointment.

It is also really good if you are going on holiday - you can see and do the routes before you even go, work out how to get from train or bus stations to hotels and search hotels to check out the local area.

Street View is great for so many things. If you haven’t tried it yet, give it a go today!
